Mr. Bungle is a band from Eureka, California, with Mike Patton (of Faith No More), Trey Spruance, and Trevor Dunn being the most consistent members.
Mr. Bungle is a lot of things, from a death metal band at their beginning, to funk metal, to noise metal, to almost yacht rock, and than back to death metal, Mr. Bungle does it all.
MR. BUNGLE (1991)
Mr. Bungle (sometimes refered to as Self-Titled) is the first studio album and by god is it a doozy. S/T is Mr. Bungle's most obviously metal album, primarily composed of Funk Metal, but switching genre all throughout, even within the same songs. Most songs have skits at the end, comprised of ambient noise with muddled talking over them, these skit sections can sometimes take up decent portions of the song, like on Egg where the skit takes up the last ~minute. With producer John Zorn (of various projects but notably to me Naked City), this album is really experimental and original in a lot of it's sounds, and has become a culy classsic for any metal head with more than decent taste. Standout tracks include Slowly Growing Deaf, Carousel, Stubb - A Dub, Love Is A Fist, and Dead Goon. You may have heard about Mr. Bungle from Vinesauce Joel.
DISCO VOLANTE (1995)
Disco Volante is the weirdest (and in my opinion the best) Mr. Bungle album. Most of it being made up of Noise Metal and the ever-pompous Musique concrète label, Disco Volante builds on the chaotic sections of Mr. Bungle and make them into a full experience. The beauty of Disco Volante cannot be described with words. Greatest tracks include Carry Stress In The Jaw, Ma Meeshka Mow Skwoz, The Bends, and Merry Go Bye Bye.
CALIFORNIA (1999)
Are you wastin' away again in Margaritaville? Do you want a change of pace, but not a change of style? Listen to California by Mr. Bungle. The best album to ever be about California (take that, red hot chili peppers!), California is a crazy and high-energy album that sounds like how living in California probably feels. Standout songs from this masterpiece include Sweet Charity, The Air-Conditioned Nightmare, Pink Cigarette, Vanity Fair, and Goodbye Sober Day.
THE RAGING WRATH OF THE EASTER BUNNY DEMO (2020)
In 2020, the long dead Mr. Bungle (the original one from Eureka Highschool) came back together to recreate their first ever demo tape, The Raging Wrath of the Easter Bunny. This was Mr. Bungle's first release in over 20 years, so it was celebrated by fans. The album is almost entirely death metal, but it is pretty good. Notable tracks include Grizzly Adams, Anarchy Up Your Anus, Hypocrites / Habla Español O Muere, and Bungle Grind.
DISCO VOLANTE ERA IMRPOV AT THE BOMB FACTORY (2021)
Released as fucking nfts, the Disco Volante era improv at the bomb factory is, well, improv at the bom factory from the Disco Volante era. Despite my love of Disco Volante, this release and the songs included kinda suck. Disco Volante is barely actually improv, and the improv shown here is kinda boring. Also, FUCK NFTS.
THE NIGHT THEY CAME HOME (2021)
The only official live album, The Night They Came Home is a live album of The Raging Wrath of The Easter Bunny, except they don't play the best song from the album and I also havent listened to it all.
